It's an ALL Huntsville Engine Final in Pro Electronics as Tanner and White Do Battle
in Final at Huntsville Engine "KOC" Event 6. Stephenson Claims Another
"KOC" WIN.......Destin "Ice Man" Bailey and little Sis Seleena Bailey
Claim Jr. Dragster WINS!!!!!
Sept. 21, 2009. The Huntsville Engine "King of the Coast" Bracket Series Returned to Gulfport Dragway for the sixth event on the 2009 campaign as the battle for the "KOC"
Points Championships were set to add another piece to the puzzle. The Mississippi Gulf Coast had been soaked with rains over the past seven days and the forecast was not
favorable for "KOC" Event 6 either as chances of precipitation ranged from 30%-60% for the race weekend. Off and on rains during Friday night and a heavy down pour
early Saturday morning had the "KOC" Staff and Gulfport Dragway Staff hitting the track hard around 8am to begin the process of removing the estimated 1" of
standing water off the track. "Waking up Saturday morning to a rain soaked track is a bad feeling," Gaylon Rolison of the "KOC" Series stated. "AJ Tritt,
Jim (Griffiths), Jeff (August), and myself started early Saturday to begin the drying process and we pretty much had the track ready to go by lunch.," Rolison added. Jr.
Time Trials were slated to kick off in the afternoon but a heavy downpour for approximately 30-45 minutes and sprinkles for about 20 minutes afterwards forced the
"KOC" Staff to pull the plug on the program for the day as all single day spectators and racers were given cash refunds and the weekend racers and spectators would
also be given cash refunds for Saturday's portion of the "KOC" program.
More rain would be in store Saturday night but not to the severity of Friday night. The racing action kicked off Sunday morning with racers receiving two time trials before
first round of elimination were to kick off. During first round of eliminations water on the track halted the racing action for about 3 1/2 hours. "With all the rain in the
area in that short amount of time we had a difficult time keeping the track dry. The persistence of Jeff (August-Gulfport Dragway Track Official) would eventually prevail as
1st Rd. of eliminations would finish up around 6:00 Sunday evening," Rolison explained.
When the racing action got back to action two familiar "KOC" racers paired up in the final of Pro Electronics. Gene Tanner of Lucedale, MS (who already has one KOC
victory in 2009) took on Wade White of Springfield, LA in an all HUNTSVILLE ENGINE Final. Tanner would take his second $5,000 WIN of the year as White would leave the start red.
"Wow, I love it when I get this far", Tanner shouted as he took his Winner Circle Photo along with son Richard Tanner and friend Mike "Miller Man" Miller.
"I won my entry to the Million" Tanner said with a big smile on his face. Bubba Kizzar of Laurel, MS took home Semi-Final money for his efforts.
"I would like to congratulate all the Winner's at the KOC this past weekend especially Wade and Gene with their Huntsville Engine power plants. That's what
Huntsville Engine and Performance is all about, putting our product in the Winner's Circle and those guys make it look easy," Todd "Bones" Ewing of Huntsville
Engine stated. "Just ask those guys about our products or call me at Huntsville Engine anytime for any of your high performance needs," Ewing emphasized.
The Pro Footbrake Final pitted two of the best finish line racers around as Bubba Stephenson of Bastrop, LA took on Scott Taylor of Petal, MS in the final. Stephenson took
home the $1,000 WIN as Taylor "missed the tree". Two Time "KOC" Pro Footbrake Champion Reid Mocherman of Slidell, LA and Reigning "KOC" Pro
Footbrake Champion MIke Cameron of Petal, MS advanced their to the Semi-Finals. This was Stephenson's fourth "KOC" Victory of year. "Our Pro Footbrake program has
some of the best the South has to offer. As well as Taylor, Cameron, Mocherman, Stephenson, racers to the likes of Mike Barnett, Mike Miller, Aaron Hill and other make
the "KOC" Pro Footbrake Class the toughest around," Rolison commented.
The Jr. Dragsters took to the track earlier in the day as Weslee "We Race the Wright Way" Wright of Laurel, MS did battle with Former "KOC" 10-12 Jr. Dragster
Champion Destin "Ice Man" Bailey of Marrero, LA. Destin took the WIN as Wright would red light his way to the R/U Finish. Britney Wilem of Long Beach, MS was the lone
Semi-Finalists. "Weslee is getting better as each race goes along. You can see it in the way Weslee carries himself. He just had that awe of confidence this weekend as he
seemed to expect to do well," Rolison stated. "As for Destin, what can you say about the young man. Maybe that's why they call him the Ice Man. Destin just stays quiet
and sneaks his way through and all of a sudden there he is in the final competing for the WIN. Destin is a honor student in school; you can just tell that Destin will be a
successful person in life with whatever path he chooses to go down," Rolison stated.
The Bailey family would still have bigger mark to leave on the weekend. One of Destin's sisters Selena (twin sister to Hannah who advanced to the Semi-Finals on the day) would
take the WIN in the Jr. Dragster 10-12 Class over Reigning Jr. Dragster KOC 8 & 9 Champion Jackson Core of Crowley, LA with a slight reaction time advantage. Trent Evans
of Bell Chase, LA also took home Semi-Final monies home. "I personally want to give a big thumbs up to Selena. Selena her twin Sister, Double Trouble Racing, are the
sweetest young ladies you will ever meet. They always carry a smile on their face," Rolison stated. Rolison also was not short to recognize the efforts of Evans on great R/U
Finish, "Trent is just another example of the stellar racers that compete in the "KOC" Jr. Dragster Classes."
The 8 & 9 Final saw Landon Neely of Florence, MS take on Trevor Palmisano of Bell Chase, LA. Landon utilized his reaction time advantage at the finish line for the WIN. Carsen
Lowery of Cantontment, FL was the lone Semi-Finalist. The victory for Landon was big as he is in a dead heat battle with Jackson Core of Crowley, LA for the Championship in the
8 & 9 Division. Core was eliminated in the 2nd Rd. of competition. "Landon wants that championship bad. You can see it a mile away; but I am sure we have not see the last
of Jackson," Rolison commented. "Great finish for Trevor. Mark my word, Trevor will for sure win a KOC Championship in the future; he is that good of a racer,"
Rolison smiled.
All in all, Event 6 was a long one but once again it proved to the racers that the "KOC" is a series for the racer. The "KOC" staff refused to give in
the weather and conditions to get at least one day of racing in. "We just try to play the hand we are dealt. You can not control the weather and you can not race it; We
strive to make the best decisions that are in the best interest of the racers. We truly do." Rolison explained. The "KOC" thanks the efforts of Gulfport Dragway
and it's staff for their long day on Sunday which consisted of 12 1/2 hours of work. "Jeff (August) is simply the heart and soul of Gulfport Dragway. There is nothing he
can not do at that place. He always has an answer," Rolison added.
The final event on the Huntsville Engine "KOC" Series is slated for November 7 & 8 once again at Gulfport Dragway as the 2009 Champions will be crowned as another great
"KOC" season will go down in the history books.
The "KOC" Series is never short in recognizing it's sponsors especially "KOC" title sponsor Huntsville Engine and Performance. "The guys at
Huntsville Engine have supported the KOC for three years now and we are grateful for that. They make the "KOC" Series possible." Rolison stated. Rolison also
thanked BTE, Figspeed.com, Nitro-Plate, J-Mark RaceCars, Wade's Tire Barn and dragcoverage.com for their support.
