Madison,
Ohio -
IHRA opens its
national event season
April 1-2, 2005 at San
Antonio Raceway, in
Marion, Texas.
It will also be the
first event of the
season for Duck Tape
Racing's Michael
Beard, who hopes to
regain his Stock World
Championship title,
earned in 2003.
"San Antonio is a
great way to start the
year," said
Beard.
"They're running
Class Eliminations for
both Stock and Super
Stock, where the
contingency money up
for grabs from great
companies like Comp
Cams and Mickey
Thompson will help
offset the expenses of
the long drive to
Texas from Ohio.
I'm fortunate to be
driving for Terry
Knott and Adger Smith
again this year, so
we'll have two
class-winning, record
setting cars on the
track. It would
be a dream come true
to be able to
double-up!
"Terry's Dart
Sport ran nearly
identical passes every
run at the Farmington
Pro-Am,
recently,"
continued Beard,
"and Adger's
six-cylinder Camaro is
more than capable of
9-second runs to put
us in the number one
qualifying position.
With the Biondo
Five-Oh long-throw
button in the Super
Stocker, I think the
two cars will react
very similarly, so it
should be an easy
transition from one
car to the other.
I'm very excited about
this weekend, and
optimistic."
The other half of the
team, Matt Zapp, hopes
to continue his
assault in the Mr.
Gasket Pro-Am Tour the
following weekend,
April 8-10, in
Mooresville, NC, with
his potent Hot Rod '66
Chevelle.
The team is backed by
Duck Tape brand duct
tape and Loctite, part
of Henkel Consumer
Adhesives, with
additional support
from Mickey Thompson
