"At a Glance" Interview with Huntsville Engine "King of the Coast" Series 2008 Pro Footbrake Champion Mike Cameron of Petal, MS.

Gaylon Rolison of BracketNews.com: Welcome Mike and thank for your time and congrats on your 2008 KOC Championship Run. "Thank you, I enjoyed racing in the series."

GR: Mike at what time during the ’08 Season did you realize you had a shot at winning the KOC Pro Footbrake Crown? "In the first two races, I ran into some trouble with my converter. After changing the converter my luck turned around. I  got a R/U at the

 next race and then won the next two. That was when I realized that I might have a good shot at the  Championship."

GR:  Going into the final event of 2008, which was rained out, what was your mindset with trying to maintain your stranglehold in the Championship? "I never try to let the points get to me. I try to focus on each race. Plain and Simple."

GR: One thing that I have noticed is when I attend or promote an event it seems as if when they call 4th or 5th Rd. of Footbrake here you coming rolling up to the staging lanes. What is the key for you on how you continuously put your self into position to win a race? "I would say having a consistent car and being on the tree is the key."

GR: Mike how long have you been competing in bracket drag racing? "Since 1996."

GR: With that in mind what is the single biggest piece of advice you would give to one who is considering or in the process of entering the world of bracket racing? "Don’t give up. I raced probably 9 months to get my first win."

GR: Mike how were you introduced to bracket racing? "I worked across the street from Hub City Dragway and decided to ride over one night after work. Two weeks later, I sold my motor home and bought my first racecar."

"I am looking forward to the 2009 season, the runoff race for the dragster and trying my luck with the 2009 KOC points."

GR: Scott (Taylor) and you travel to all the bracket and heads-up races together. How much of a benefit is it to have someone like Scott to compare notes with at the racetrack? "When I had my smaller motor in my car, Scott and I were exactly one tenth apart at all the tracks we went to so we could dial off of each other. We also run the same type of alcohol carburetor, so it worked out good for both of us".

GR: In the late 90’s when you competed Hub City Dragway’s Bracket Program, there were so many good Footbrake racers there (Reid Mocherman, Jerry Hyatt, Delman Busha, James Page). Can you speak on the level of competition that Hub City had and how that affected you as a racer? "I had to be on top of the game at all times."

GR: What are your racing plans and goals for the 2009 Season? "I plan on running defending my KOC Championship and running some Heads-Up Events."

GR: Mike give us a run down on some of your bracket racing accomplishments from big money bracket wins to track championships? "I was the runner-up at the 2000 and 2003 Bracket Finals, and won the Gambler’s Race at the 2003 event. I was Hub City Dragway’s Track Champion in 2003."

GR: Your wife and kids attend bracket events with you from time to time, what does that mean to you? "I enjoy having my family there because it’s nice to have good, clean family fun."

GR: Thanks for your time Mike, any final comments you would like to tell our viewers? "I appreciate the opportunity to race this great series and look forward to the 2009 season."
